Fees & Payment

Over the years, clients have told us that working with their MilkMatters Lactation Consultant was the best healthcare experience they’ve ever had. They’ve said that their time with other providers is so limited, but with us they have a truly comprehensive visit.

Our model of ongoing support carries you through every stage, from preparing in pregnancy, through the bumpy early days, to managing transitions like working and starting solids, and celebrating each milestone with you until your journey concludes.

In order to provide the high-quality care that our clients love, we start out all new clients with a series of 3 visits. New clients pay for their first 3 visits when booking their first consult with us. Once established, you’ll pay for additional Follow-up Consults as you go.

We’ll be with you through your entire journey.

I wasn’t expecting to gain so much knowledge on sleeping schedules, infant habits, and feeding. I learned a lot from the experience and I am so grateful to have established care with a lactation consultant.

  • $275 for Follow-up Consults - All visits after the Initial Consult, where we’ll evaluate progress and provide guidance for each stage.

I really only want one visit. Do I need to book 3 visits to get started?

We’ve found that high-quality lactation care takes multiple visits. At your first visit, we’ll do a comprehensive assessment and introduce some interventions. At each follow-up visit, you’ll update us on how things are progressing and we’ll tweak the plan if needed, plus we’ll talk through upcoming changes and give you anticipatory guidance about what comes next.

If you just have a quick question or a concern that you expect can be resolved in one visit, we do not offer that service, however there are lots of excellent resources available. Your insurance company may offer virtual lactation support. You can call the hospital where you delivered and ask to speak to a lactation consultant there. As mentioned above, Baby Cafe and WIC are also great places to get support.

I can’t find a Lactation Consultant who will take my insurance and I can’t afford to pay out of pocket. What can I do?

A great resource available to everyone, free of cost, is Baby Cafe. They offer virtual and in-person support groups where you can meet with other parents, and they also have professional lactation consultants on staff who can meet with you one-on-one if needed. There are multiple locations around the Capital Region. Learn more here: https://healthprograms.org/breastfeeding-support/baby-cafes/

If you qualify for WIC, ask to connect with a peer breastfeeding counselor or a Lactation Consultant. WIC can also help with getting a breast pump.

After an unsuccessful breastfeeding journey with my first child I knew I needed extra support if I wanted to try breastfeeding again with my second child. Jillian listened to my story and stayed optimistic that she could help me giving me confidence that the next time would be different. I felt supported and cared about. After my initial consult I knew I had made the right choice with MilkMatters.
