Lactation Consults
Guidance for what comes next
Our standard schedule for routine Follow-up Consults gives us opportunities to check in at times when we anticipate changes. We try to stagger with the typical pediatrician schedule, so we can monitor things without making you too busy.
Here are the topics we’ll typically cover during routine Follow-up Consults:
3 weeks old – starting bottles and pumping, upcoming growth spurt, cluster feeding, and longer sleep stretches
6 weeks old – preventing bottle refusal, stashing milk for later, birth control methods compatible with lactation, postpartum mobility classes, checking that a longer sleep stretch is happening most nights, and what to do if it’s not
3 months old – checking baby’s growth after milk supply regulation, sleeping all night and upcoming sleep regression, monitoring for symptoms of mood disorders, pumping at work
6 months old – starting solids, drinking from a cup
12 months old – changes to the feeding plan after baby’s first birthday
We’ll do a visit whenever you decide to wean, and if you need extra appointments at any point, we’ll add those in, too.

“Sessions have been helpful in a variety of ways. On a practical level, we’re able to see results quickly with the issues we’ve been facing. Sessions provide a reassuring check-in regarding the baby’s weight and other questions that have come up. Jillian makes us both feel seen and heard, and she’s wonderfully friendly. I couldn’t imagine going through this breast feeding journey without her.”
